World Cassowary Day 2017

Rainforest Reserves Australia, event organiser of World Cassowary Day 2017 would like to invite you to attend World Cassowary Day on Saturday 24 September at Fogarty Park, the Esplanade Cairns.

World Cassowary Day (WCD) has grown from humble beginnings at Kuranda in 2014, Mission Beach in 2015 and the Daintree in 2016. Into a well-recognised event on the professional/volunteer conservationists and supporters ‘must do’ annual event calendar.

Each year with the generous support of various government agencies, NGO organisations, our major media partner ABC radio Far North, the Guardian newspapers and zoos around the globe, WCD has grown in popularity and into the success it is today.

As a conservation outcome of the ‘Day’ in 2015 and many months work in the lead up, the Southern Cassowary and the Mahogany Glider were officially placed on the Federal governments, Threatened Species Priority 20/20 list.

Cassowary Day will be an event to raise awareness and the importance of the endangered Southern Cassowary, not just for our local area and the ecology of the Wet Tropics, but also for the ecosphere where unfortunately too many species have become extinct.

It will also be an occasion for organisations and community members to meet up and network with community conservation groups and Government environmental departments. The day will be filled with fun and educational activities encouraging participation from all ages.

Hon Warren Entsch MP

2016 saw WCD move north of the Daintree River to the James Cook University environmental science facility. Again, the event was well supported and attended, a stand out highlight and hugely popular was the many presentations given by scientists, researchers and environmentalists.

Along with your much anticipated attendance on the Day there are a number of ways you can support WCD and the conservation efforts of this iconic bird of Far North Queensland by;

  • Becoming a guest speaker (from subject matter experts)
  • Being an exhibitor (conservation, Eco tourism)
  • Organising a conservation activity to coincide with WCD
  • Providing in kind or monetary support to the event.

Visit our website at www.worldcassowaryday.org.au for more details, booking an exhibitors site can also be done online at our website.

Come along to WCD support the survival of the Cassowary, join in the celebrations and learn what you can do to help protect the Cassowaries existence for future generations.

Please email your RSVP to WCD at worldcassowaryday2017@gmail.com or contact us www.worldcassowaryday.org.au for more details.
