Far North Queensland is well on its way to being dengue fever-free with thousands of virus-resistant mosquitoes released in Mission Beach, El Arish and Tully.
Releases of the mosquitoes has been conducted across the Far North including Cairns, Port Douglas.& Mossman
Scientists are on track to complete their release of mosquitoes bearing dengue-blocking Wolbachia bacteria that has been developed in Australia by the Monash University, which started in Cairns in 2010.
They are targeting areas at high risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, such as the Zika virus.
