Leading adventure tourism company, Experience Co Limited has successfully secured the tender to operate commercial/recreation and tourism activities on the Dunk Island Spit.
Experience Co runs Skydive Australia & Raging Thunder and other tourist businesses though out Australia & New Zealand.
Announced at the Cassowary Coast Regional Council meeting on 28th March 2018, the Experience Co Dunk Island Adventure Hub will open its doors in late 2018. In a three-phase approach, Dunk Island will come alive again and be open for business for tourists and locals alike.
Experience Co CEO Anthony Ritter said: “This is really exciting news for our company, we are thrilled to have secured the tender for the Dunk Island spit activities for the next 20 years.
Phase One of the new eco-friendly Dunk Island Adventure Hub will include a beach hire hut featuring a range of water-based activities, including ocean trampolines, stand up paddle boards, snorkelling equipment, sea kayaks, floating cabanas and camping packs. A rejuvenated camping ground and amenities will encourage overnight stays. Phase One will also include the introduction of popular Experience Co activities such as high speed jet boat rides, glass bottom boat tours, snorkelling tours and the highly popular “SNUBA” product to the region.
Experience Co endeavours to assist in the promotion of the region’s rich Aboriginal culture, and also intend on launching its successful reef education program for visitors to the Hub.
Phases Two and Three, rolled out throughout 2019, will see the addition of other exciting experiences ranging from scuba diving, eco-tents, powered campsites and motorised water activities to cultural spaces for local events showcasing musical and artistic talents.
“We really believe in what the Far North Queensland region has to offer and look forward to bringing our proven adventure tourism experiences to rejuvenate the Island for all to experience.”
Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor John Kremastos said: “The Dunk Island Spit represents a strategic opportunity for the Council to improve facilities at the Dunk Island location and significantly increase diversity in the region’s available tourism activities.
“The Council’s resolution recognises that Experience Co, as an existing successful operator in the region, is well placed to not only operate a world class, eco-friendly facility at The Spit but also to invest into infrastructure on the island and provide an exciting variety of tourism activities. Establishing a direct link with an existing major adventure tourism provider in Far North Queensland, including our region, also provides added benefits in terms of international marketing of our region.”
The Adventure Hub is expected to generate some 60 jobs through the construction and ongoing operational phases.
Whilst the Hub will aim to generate visitation to the Cassowary Coast from near and far, a highly attractive locals program will be launched to encourage patronage from the local community.
Tremendous news, at last a reputable company to take over. This will not only benefit Dunk Island but the region as well and i only hope that our local Tourism bodies throw their efforts behind it, with more activities in the area it will encourage visitors to stay a extra couple of nights. For too long our town has relied on the “Grey Nomad” influx during the winter months, and the town basically closes down on their departure in October. Dont get me wrong, these visitors are the backbone of our tourist industry and are very appreciated, but with this new developement we will have more to offer and hopefully encourage more visitors year round.
Well done Experience !!!!!
Too compliment this we really need access to the air strip and flights so tourists can fly to our region. Then fly out to other destinations.
