Exactly 50 years ago, diver Eddie Hegerl and friends gathered the scientific evidence that compelled the Queensland Government to refuse an application to mine Ellison Reef. This set the legal precedent for protecting the whole Great Barrier Reef and creating the world’s largest marine park.
To mark the 50th anniversary of the event, there will be two events on the 14th of October.
Firstly there will be a boat ride out to Ellison Reef with Charlie Veron and Eddie Hegerl
There is only 45 seats at a cost of $175 per person including lunch. You can book your seat by calling 07 4068 8310
The boat will depart at 9:30 am and return at 1:30 pm
Lunch will be served on the boat.
Secondly there will be reflections of the event over 50 years ago at Ninney Rise, Bingil Bay from 2pm with special guests & more: by donation
