Tropical Garden Challenge 2019
The Tropical Garden Challenge is the annual Cassowary Coast Regional Council Garden Competition. There are 10 category prizes of $100 each + the Champion Garden Perpetual Trophy The Rose Layt Memorial Trophy.
The Tropical garden Challenge is aimed to celebrate gardening and encourage people to share their gardens rather than be just a competition.
Entries are now open for Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s Tropical Garden Challenge 2019. Gardeners are asked to submit their entries by Friday, August 16.
Mayor John Kremastos is urging local ‘green thumbs’ to enter the competition and show off their pride in their botanical creations. “The Cassowary Coast is home to many beautiful and interesting gardens throughout our diverse region, from our lush coastal areas and rainforests to the drier woodland areas,” Cr Kremastos said.
“This is a great opportunity for Cassowary Coast residents to show off their artistry and passion and inspire other local gardeners with their environmentally friendly gardening techniques and use of native and exotic plants,” Cr Kremastos said.
Judging will be held from August 26 to 29 and all gardens entered are independently judged.
Gardens will be judged across 10 categories, including residential, rural, pensioner, most colourful, front, edible garden (vegetable, herb, fruit), tourist accommodation, commercial and school gardens.
There is an afternoon tea held at Warrina Gardens in Innisfail where photos are exhibited of the gardens and the awards are presented.

Entry forms are available from Council Customer Service offices in Innisfail and Tully and libraries in Cardwell and Wongaling Beach or on the website links below.
